Open Ukraine Stories supports literary and cultural projects that connect Ukraine, its people and its stories with contemporary European audiences. The initiative creates space for Ukrainian voices beyond narratives of war and highlights the richness and diversity of Ukrainian cultural, literary and intellectual life.

Through literature, storytelling, public events and cross-cultural exchange, we explore questions of identity, belonging, language, memory and migration — and bring Ukrainian perspectives into dialogue with wider European contexts.

A particular strand of the initiative focuses on children’s literature and intergenerational storytelling, creating accessible ways for children and families to encounter Ukrainian stories, culture and experiences.

Through collaborations with authors, artists and cultural partners, Open Ukraine Stories contributes to a more nuanced understanding of Ukraine as part of Europe’s diverse contemporary cultural landscape.
